Press: Family tragedy, Sandžak unrest

BELGRADE -- The Belgrade dailies lead with the Horgoš-Požega concessions and the rift in the Serbian Islamic community.

The newspapers also gave much attention to the case of the fake anti-tetanus vaccine, and a family tragedy in Mladenovac

BLIC – Under the headline, “Government as accomplice to fraud”, the paper writes that government ministers have accepted the changes to the Horgoš-Požega highway concessions contract. The story of the family tragedy in Mladenovac is entitled, “Killed wife, daughter, son then himself”, while “Vial filled with water instead of anti-tetanus serum” is about the latest medical scandal.

BORBA – “Waiting for next round” is about the latest talks on Kosovo’s status. The paper writes about the Chamber of Commerce’s forecasts for meat prices: “Plenty of meat, but expensive.”

VEČERNJE NOVOSTI – “Straight-forward journey” is about the Austrian PORR group becoming the new concessionaire for the Horgoš-Požega highway. “Water vaccines” refers to the fake anti-tetanus vaccine given to 95 people in Boljevac and Novo Selo in Banat, Vojvodina. “Whole family massacred” concerns the four members of the same family found dead in Mladenovac. New Belgrade Mayor Zoran Alimpić says, “Our man’s better than Vučić,” referring to the possible Radicals' candidate for the top spot in the city administration.

GLAS JAVNOSTI – “Mišković under spotlight” is about the Association of Small Shareholders proposal to investigate the dealings of Delta Holding owner Milorad Mišković. Under the headline, “Milka Forcan to ‘brand’ Serbia” the paper writes that the government has formed a council for national promotion. “Cordon prevents trouble” is about the stormy reception given to the new Reis of the Serbian Islamic community in Novi Pazar. The crime in Mladenovac goes under the title, “Kills wife and children, then himself”, while “Secret of my surrender” features an interview with Milorad Ulemek, found guilty recently of sanctioning the murder of the late Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić.

DANAS – “Zilkić and Zukorlić supporters exchange insults” reports on the inauguration of the new head of the Serbian Islamic community. “Patients given water injections” writes about how an inspection found that patients had been given fake anti-tetanus injections. “Government changes Horgoš-Požega highway concessionaire” is about the PORR group’s assumption of the highway concession.

KURIR – An interview with Milorad Ulemek, aka Legija, is featured on the front page under the headline, “I didn’t want to be a protected witness.”

POLITIKA – “Government orders boycott” concerns a government decision that Serbian representatives can leave international gatherings attended independently by representatives of Kosovo’s temporary institutions. “Austrian PORR enters concession” concerns further developments in the Horgoš-Požega highway saga. “Doris Lessing wins Nobel Prize” is about this year’s winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature.

PRESS – “Family massacre” refers to the tragedy in Mladenovac. The paper reports on the fake tetanus vaccines under the headline “Fake vaccines in Serbia.”
