The private radio station “Bon-Ton” in Vrbas has added a program in Chinese for the town’s Chinese listeners. Station owner Slobodan Radulovic said that the one hour show would be dedicated to Chinese culture. Local radio to broadcast in Chinese “The Chinese are now our neighbors, like every other nationality, and I believe that they should have their own light entertainment and cultural program. They are thousands of kilometers from home, which doesn’t mean that they have to forget about their backgrounds,” Radulovic said. Show host Lin Lin said that he was the owner of several shops in Vrbas and that cooperation with Radulovic had started when he brought round some popular modern Chinese music and traditional songs. “We Chinese listen to your music here, and we are happy to have a program in our own language, because that helps us, because we’re far away from home and our people. There are several hundred of us in Vrbas and I am very happy to be working with the other residents,” Lin said. The show in Chinese is broadcast on Sundays and more similar shows are in the pipeline. “We want to play song requests not only for Chinese people, but for everyone,” Lin said. Radulovic said that he planned to extend cooperation with the Chinese by giving them their own program on his television station, which is currently broadcasting experimental programs on the cable network. “We will soon begin broadcasting on satellite and Lin Lin will have a show where he’ll speak to his guests about life in Serbia, celebrate Chinese holidays and special events, and feature their companies and shops,” Radulovic said.
