A session of the regional branch of the World Health Organization begins in Belgrade today.

Three hundred delegates from 53 countries will take part in the gathering, dedicated to global problems in the fields of health and reform implementation, and the session of the regional committee will be held in the national parliament.
During the session, Health Minister Tomica Milosavljeviæ will present the results of health reforms in Serbia.
This year, the WHO will focus on the struggle with mass non-contagious diseases, such as heart disease, obesity and the protection of mothers and children, since that problem is becoming a priority, owing to the big regional disparities in child mortality.
Cooperation agreement signed
WHO Europe Director Marc Danzon and Health Minister Tomica Milosavljeviæ yesterday signed a two-year cooperation agreement, the Health Ministry has announced.
The main aims of the agreement for 2008/2009 are activities in the field of public health pertaining to the prevention and control of non-contagious diseases; human resources for planning and the development of the health system; development of the health system and improving the capacities to respond to various health threats.
The report states that the WHO has allocated a budget of USD 1.475mn for the period.
