Ovcara trial continues in Belgrade The case is a retrial for indictees accused of executing 200 Croatian prisoners at the Ovcara farm near Vukovar in November 1991. Collaborating witness Spasoje Petkovic was working as a courier for then Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) Captain Miroslav Radic at the time of the crimes. The indictment is based on the information he gave to the prosecution. There are 17 people on trial for the executions. The trial itself had to restart after the Serbian Supreme Court nullified the initial ruling of the war crimes court at the end of last year. In the last proceeding, 15 of the indictees were convicted and sentenced to prison terms while two were found innocent. Among the accused for the Ovcara crime before the Belgrade War Crimes Chamber are Miroljub Vujovic, Stanko Vujanovic, Milan Lancuzanin, Jovica Peric, Ivan Atanasijevic, Predrag Madzarac, Milan Vojinovic, Predrag Milojevic, Vujo Zlatar, Goran Mugosa, Djordje Sosic, Miroslav Djankovic, Predrag Dragovic, Nada Kalaba, Slobodan Katic and Marko Ljuboja. First-accused Miroljub Vujovic, former commander of the Vukovar Territorial Defense, said he was in the hospital at the time at which Croat prisoners were killed on the farm, and that he did not assume command over war operations in Vukovar until later. All of the indictees pleased “not guilty” at the beginning of the retrial on March 13.
