A group of seven prisoners escaped Saturday from the Dubrava penitentiary near Istok, in Kosovo. Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesman Veton Elshani told B92 the group was led by Faton Hajrizi. Seven inmates break out of Kosovo prison “Hajrizi is known to the public as a suspect in the murder of a Russian KFOR soldier in 2000,” he said, adding that Burim Basha, Amir Sopa, Astrit Shabani, Ramadan Shuti, Davit Morina and Lirim Jakupi were also among the escaped convicts. B92's source in Pec confirmed the breakout occurred at 4:15 p.m. Saturday. “The escape was well organized, the inmates received backup from a group of armed men outside the prison that opened fire at the security guards, which injured no one,” the same source alleged. Meanwhile, the Pec police said that Hajrizi managed to escape from prison three times since 2000. “Following an armed robbery of a bank in Srbica, Hajrizi fled to Germany where he was detained after UNMIK police issued a warrant for his arrest, and subsequently deported to Kosovo,” the police officials said.
