Minority Council gets no say
9 August 2006 | 13:18 | Source: FoNet
NOVI SAD -- The Minority Council claims that it was not consulted prior to changes made to the education laws related to minorities.

Ana Tomanova Makanova, coordinator of the Minority National Councils, told Radio 021 that this is an act which violates the National Minority Rights Law, which calls for all state bodies to include the Minority Council in the decision process in questions that concern the Council.

Niko nije zatražio mišljenje, niko nas nije konsultovao, pa ni ministar prosvete Slobodan Vuksanović, i mi o svemu ovome saznajemo iz medija.

“No one ask for our opinion, no one consulted us, not even Education Minister Slobodan Vuksanović, and we found out about this from the media. It would be fair to at least ask with one sentence what our opinions are and whether anyone has any suggestions, if we want to build partnerships. This is necessary in order to be genuine partners, to actively play our role in the National Council which has been determined by law.” Ana Tomanova Makanova said.

The changes to the Education Law which the Serbian Government has sent to the Parliament for urgent discussion and ratification looks to allow minorities to be schooled in their native languages as well as in Serbian, and enables the use of both domestic and imported learning materials.

Suspension and Bridges, January 31, 2010

What we need in Belgrade, really, is a suspension bridge. We need a bridge that will suspend our doubts about ever having enough viable bridges. We need a bridge that will suspend our disbelief about the dangers ...
