All persons detained as suspects in the fatal beating of a US tourist in Zakynthos have denied accusations during a hearing in front of an investigative judge.

According to media reports, the Serbians "rejected any possibility of involvement in the crime" - even thought "they are clearly visible in video footage of the fight."

A bouncer at the club where the brawl started, who is "of Serbian origin," told the judge that he "did not hit the victim."

"I did not beat him, or at least I didn't deal him the fatal blow, because my arm was broken," he said.

A Greek bartender who was also arrested said he was "not the one" who killed the victim, Bakari Henderson.

"Yes, I hit him, but I did not intend to kill him. I saw that my colleague was in that fight and I ran over to help," he said.

Greek websites are reporting that the process will continue with the hearings of three more Serbian citizens, and that a decision will be made during the afternoon regarding the prisons they will be transferred to.

Earlier, Zora Dobricanin-Nikodinovic, the lawyer of one of the Serbians, whose initials are D.R., told Tanjug that all the young men who had been arrested have been remanded in custody.

According to Greek media, eight suspects are being charged with homicide and conspiracy with intent to commit murder, and could reportedly be sentenced to life in prison.

There have been no details about the ninth suspect, who is also in custody.

It difficult to estimate when the trial might start, considering that a detailed investigation and evidence collection is expected to take place, followed by the raising and the confirmation of the indictment.

Greek media on Wednesday published videos of the incident from two security cameras.
