During the meeting, Darmanovic "stressed that Montenegro greatly appreciates the spiritual and moral reputation of the Holy See and its active and constructive role in resolving global political, economic, environmental and other issues," Montenegro's state broadcaster RTCG has reported.

According to a statement from the Montenegrin MFA, the minister also "positively evaluated the efforts of Pope Francis for peace, justice and equality among people, the strengthening of the role of the family and the rule of law, his fight against terrorism, corruption and organized crime, as well as activities in assisting underdeveloped countries and the poor."

Darmanovic was invited to Rome by Secretary for Relations of the Holy See with States Paul Richard Gallagher, and held a meeting with him, and with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See.

Darmanovic handed Parolin a letter from Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic, inviting him to visit Montenegro in the upcoming period, "which was accepted with satisfaction."

"The necessity of consistent respect for traditional social values ​​and taking into account diversity was also discussed, and, in this context, intensifying ecumenical dialogue," the statement added.
