Tomulic told Vecernji List, in light of the deterioration of relations between Zagreb and Moscow, that he was very sorry about it.

"Russia was our ally in the procurement of weapons in the early 1990s. The Russians delivered weapons at the request of France, I was a witness to it. Now it is considered that the Russians were, and remain allies of the Serbs, but during the Homeland War they were arming us and not the Serbs," says Tomulic.

His role is emphasized also by former Prime Minister Josip Manolic.

"As the prime minister I made Tomulic an authorized buyer on behalf of the government, and later an official representative of the Office for the Protection of Constitutional Order in the negotiations over the price or the manner of delivery," Manolic wrote in his memoirs.

However, Nacional wrote about Tomulic in 2006, stating that he was actually on the run from Croatian justice and took refuge in France, and that he is suspected of committing fraud in the business dealings of the companies Jadrankomerc and Maloprodaja.
