"Šešelj should be sent back to Hague"

In a statement posted on the website of the Serb Radical Party (SRS), Hague indictee and party leader Vojislav Šešelj congratulated to "Serb Chetniks the day of the liberation of Vukovar". He was referring to the anniversary of the fall of this eastern Croatian town in 1991.

According to the Croatian agency, Šešelj's message added that "on this day 23 years ago Serb Chetniks, after three months of heroic struggle, freed Vukovar from Ustasha paramilitary formations."

"The Serb Vukovar was the first liberated Serb town which was, without a struggle, with the help of the Belgrade regime, turned over to the Croat Ustasha state," said Šešelj, who was last week granted provisional release by the Hague tribunal.

The message further adds that "Vojislav Šešelj and his party will never give up an inch of the Serb state and will do everything so that the Republic of Serb Krajina and the Serb Vukovar are again a part of the Greater Serbia."

The Croatian president told the HRT broadcaster earlier on Tuesday that he had written to President of the Hague Tribunal Theodor Meron regarding the provisional release of Šešelj.

Josipović said he warned of the possibility of the strengthening of Šešelj's political activity "and the risk that his hate speech can severely disrupt peace and stability in Southeastern Europe."

Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Minister Vesna Pusić said previously that she warned her European colleagues about "an aggravating circumstance in Southeastern Europe resulting from the release of Vojislav Šešelj."

Pusić said that Šešelj was "a potentially disruptive factor, primarily to the relations and public opinion in the region."
