Croat presidency member argues in favor of "federalization"

"It is no longer necessary for foreigners to come to us and warn us that Bosnia is currently non-functional, unmanageable, uneconomical," he said in an interview with the BHRT broadcaster.

Čović noted that the push for federalization does not mean breaking up Bosnia-Herzegovina, "as some understand it."

"We, both in the HDZ and the Croat People's Party (HNS) are strong advocates of Bosnia-Herzegovina, we constantly emphasize that this is our homeland. But, we want to arrange it to suit people and the constituent nations, to give it a democratic trait, freedom for every individual who wants to live there. Of course, we want the European path for a Bosnia where people will live, instead of one they will leave."

According to Čović those who are breaking up Bosnia-Herzegovina are the ones who "#wanted to destroy the Croats as a political people, who were the strongest in the past four years and tried to play with the legitimacy of the representatives of the Croatian people."

The post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina has been arranged as a country consisting of two entities: the Serb Republic (RS), and the Muslim-Croat Federation (FBiH), and speaking about a proposal to form "a Croatian electoral unit" within the FBiH, Čović said it was "a virtual project that has no boundaries and lasts only one day, as long as the counting of votes for members of the Presidency takes."

"I do not see why anyone who loves Bosnia-Herzegovina would be opposed to that. Each constituency is multi-ethnic, and this one will be as well," he said.
