Serbia and Montenegro have "exemplary relations"

Gojković stressed that the relations of the two traditionally friendly countries are probably at their peak of late and added that the role of the parliaments in this aspect is rather significant.

Gojković underscored that there is room for further improvement of the relations.

"It is up to us to provide an additional contribution to the relations so that political and economic stability of the two countries and their good relations could set an example for the entire region as to the modes of cooperation between countries and the importance of cooperation for further steps and progress in European integration," Gojković said during the talks with Krivokapić.

Serbia and Montenegro share the same priorities embodied in European integration, and the two parliaments can cooperate and exchange experiences in the process, especially with regard to the parliament working bodies in charge of European integration, foreign affairs and the environment, she said.

Krivokapić noted that in the past, the focus of the two countries' relations rested on wrong topics but the ties have been brought to an exceptionally good level now and can be further improved through parliamentary cooperation channels.

The Montenegrin parliament speaker noted that the two countries are well on their EU path and that cooperation is an important point in this field, primarily with regard to ensuring better living standards which would send a strong message to the region as well and show that all issues, including the most difficult ones, can be solved in such a way as to provide a strong incentive to overall cooperation and improvement of living conditions in the area in the time to come.

During her stay in Montenegro, Gojković conferred with members of the friendship group with Serbia and during the meeting, officials underscored that Serbia and Montenegro should make a joint approach to EU IPA funds so as to use them in a better way.

"Plague"

In a joint news conference, Gojković, and Krivokapić stated that relations between the two countries are good, stressing that cooperation has to be intensified between the two parliaments and their committees.

Gojković, who is paying a working visit to Montenegro, underlined after the meeting that no incident can stop the need for cooperation in the Western Balkans and the entire region.

Commenting on the recent incident that took place at the match between Serbia and Albania in Belgrade, Gojković said that the Serbian government has decided to postpone the visit of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to Belgrade for November 10 so that tensions could ease.

“It is crucial that no political or any other kind of incident can stop processes in the entire Western Balkans and the region. These are processes of cooperation and need to solve all conflicts through cooperation and dialogue,” she said at a joint press conference.

Gojković said that it would be better if those who think about nationalism were focused on reform processes, which include good regional cooperation so that citizens could live better, because nationalism makes good life impossible.

Krivokapić said that everyone in the Balkans is connected, adding that nationalism is a plague which has been on for quite a while, stressing that abuse of prejudice and everything that goes along is a constant threat to the Balkans.

Nationalism is a plague that has spread across Europe for quite a while. The development of democracy, civil society, freedom as a whole, rule of law is the only way to fight it, Krivokapić said.

“Through policies of proactive cooperation in crucial areas of European integration, we reduce and maybe even eradicate such threats to a certain period,” Krivokapić said.
