A 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit the area of the town of Zenica on Thursday, triggering a gas explosion and collapse in the mine.

Two miners were injured during the collapse and are now treated in the hospital.

Despite earlier statements that the trapped miners were doing well and had enough air, news on Friday suggested that five had died, while 29 were rescued.

President of the Union of Miners of Bosnia Sedin Husić was quoted as saying by the Dnevni Avaz daily that he learned this "from his union colleagues" that took part in the rescue efforts.
