Former Croatian PM sentenced to 9 years

Former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has been found guilty in a corruption case and sentenced to nine years in jail by a court in Zagreb on Tuesday.

Former Croatian PM sentenced to 9 years

The money will be withdrawn from his blocked accounts and the bank accounts owned by his family, Beta is reproting.

Sanader is also a former leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), "the first political party charged with corruption and found guilty as charged," the news agency said.

The other accused in the Fimi Media case were also found guilty of having joined a criminal enterprise organized by Sanader to extract money from state institutions and companies.

Sanader and his party will appeal against the verdict by the District Court in the Fimi Media case.

Sanader was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2012 for having accepted bribe and for war profiteering in the INA-MOL and Hypo cases, Beta reported.
