In Podgorica, Metropolitan Amfilohije of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) led the ceremonies, while this was done in Cetinje by the head of the canonically unrecognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church (CPC), Mihailo. The Beta news agency said in its report that Amfilohije this year sent messages that are "more reconciliatory than in previous years," when it comes to the CPC. He said its members "in a way serve God," but called on them to join in "a unified" burning of the badnjak in front of the Cetinje Monastery.
