Serbia, Montenegro to set up "functional airspace block"

Representatives of the aviation authorities of Serbia and Montenegro signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding.

BELGRADE Representatives of the aviation authorities of Serbia and Montenegro signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding. It concerns the constitution of a Functional Airspace Block (FAB), the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Republic of Serbia announced. Serbia, Montenegro to set up "functional airspace block" The memorandum was signed by acting director of the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate Milan Zivanovic, Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Montenegro Dragan Djurovic and Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services CEO Slobodan Cvijan. FAB is very important because it constitutes a key precondition for a full integration into European aviation structures, especially for the implementation of the Single European Sky regulation. The joint approach of Serbia and Montenegro to the important task was defined by their geographic position which makes the two countries partners in the FAB initiative. Serbia and Montenegro have a joint provider of aviation services, Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services (SMATSA). In order to prepare for the implementation of the FAB initiative between Serbia and Montenegro, the signatories of the Memorandum agreed to set up a joint temporary working group with the task of analyzing the possibilities and requests for FAB constitution. After this, the existing FAB initiatives in the region and Europe would be analyzed and, following a review of potential options, the optimum solution for both countries would be proposed. The basis for the joint action on the FAB initiative was provided by the two countries' governments which signed the Agreement on cooperation in aviation between Serbia and Montenegro which entered into force in late October.
