BELGRADE Serbia "will call for prompt resolution of open issues with Croatia, such as the return of Serb refugees and restoration of their property rights." Serbia will also urge "resolution of border issues and fulfillment of all the conditions which Croatia as the EU member has toward the Serb minority," Serbian president's advisor Stanislava Pak said. Nikolic-Josipovic talks to cover Serbian Cyrillic signs The framework of the first official meeting between Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and his Croatian counterpart Ivo Josipovic in Belgrade is still being discussed, the advisor said. When asked by the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti whether the meeting between the two presidents would focus on tensions in Vukovar over the plaques written in Serbian Cyrillic and whether the protests should calm down after the meeting, Pak replied that it is unacceptable for certain parties in Croatia to use Serbs as means for gaining precedence on the political scene. According to her, Serbia should carry out the strategy for preservation of Serbs in the region and launch the implementation of the action plan as soon as possible to make sure Serbs stay and continue their life in their homes without antagonisms. Although the mutual genocide suits are under the jurisdiction of the two countries' governments, the presidents should also examine the conditions which led to their withdrawal. “Josipovic recently said that suits are still casting a shade on the relations between Serbia and Croatia, and underscored that it should be examined whether there are still reasons to justify this,” the advisor said and added that the two countries now stand witness to the triumph of politics over law and interests over moral. In the case of the suit and countersuit, attack seems to be the best defence, Pak said. Josipovic said on Wednesday that there is a certain disbalance in Croatia when it comes to international relations and this is the reason why he launched the initiative to reach a consensus on the introduction of the Cyrillic script in the cities and municipalities where Serbs constitute over a third of the population.
