Bosnia: Policeman blows himself up while fishing

A police officer in the Bosnian town of Neum died in an explosion while he was fishing in the sea, using dynamite.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Robert Katić.

The police of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Bosnian Federation entity have confirmed that the accident had taken place.

Katić was illegally fishing, and the dynamite most likely exploded in his hand, a police spokesman said.

According to the same source, the body was found floating in the Neum Bay, while the victim's boat had drifted over to the Croatian territorial waters.

Cantonal Prosecutor Tanja Marčinko, who led the investigation, said that the explosives were of military origin.

No post mortem has been ordered - "considering it was visible that this was not a violent death, but an accident," the authorities announced.
