SOFIA Bulgarians organized mass protests against privatization of national railway company, unemployment and poverty across the country on Sunday. The protesters blocked a state road in southwest Bulgaria and clashed with the police. Many protesters gathered in the port town of Varna where they blocked the train station, preventing all railway traffic.

Large numbers of protesters gathered in the capital of Sofia and headed toward the main train station.

Dissatisfied Bulgarians are carrying banners saying “Bulgaria, wake up”, “Future for the youth”, “Railway is not for sale” and “Mafia”.
