Cyrillic alphabet not only problem, SNV head says

ZAGREB Serb National Council (SNV) President Milorad Pupovac has said that the Cyrillic alphabet is not the only problem in the Croatian town of Vukovar. According to him, the fact that both Serbs and Croats were leaving Vukovar represented a much bigger problem. Cyrillic alphabet not only problem, SNV head says “The Cyrillic alphabet in Vukovar is important as an element of equality and protection of identity and as an element of tolerance and protection of common life,” Pupovac said. However, he believes that the fact that both Serbs and Croats were leaving the area was a bigger issue. The SNV president claims that large numbers of Serbs and Croats do not live in Vukovar all year round. Pupovac added that a campaign against the introduction of the Cyrillic script would last until the authorities decided to start implementing the law on bilingualism in areas in which Serbs make up a third of the population.
