BUCHAREST There are no open issues between Serbia and Romania, top parliament officials of the two neighboring countries have said in Bucharest on Wednesday. The statements were made as Serbia's Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic met with President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament Valeriu Zgonea. "No open issues between Romania and Serbia" Stefanovic thanked Romania for its support for Serbia's EU integration and for not recognizing Kosovo, a statement issued by the Serbian parliament in Belgrade said. The two officials expressed their countries' willingness to improve the position of the Serb minority in Romania and Romanian minority in Serbia in the spirit of friendly relations. Stefanovic and Zgonea said there is need to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen parliamentary cooperation. They pointed out the significance of parliamentary friendship groups and the role of parliaments in strengthening the economic relations and cooperation between the two nations. Stefanovic added that Romania was Serbia's "fifth best economic partner", while Zgonea noted the two countries should use EU funds to cooperate in infrastructure projects and jointly enter other markets. Stefanovic, a member of the ruling Serb Progressives (SNS), also met with several European officials who were in Bucharest to attend a conference of the European People's Parties.
