Polls opened on Sunday morning in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Citizens will choose new local authorities in all towns and municipalities except in the city of Mostar.

BANJA LUKA, SARAJEVO Polls opened on Sunday morning in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Citizens will choose new local authorities in all towns and municipalities except in the city of Mostar. The citizens will vote for 58 municipal assemblies in the Republic of Srpska (RS) and for 78 municipal assemblies in the Croat-Muslim Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Local elections underway in Bosnia-Herzegovina The voters will also elect five mayors in the RS, in Banja Luka, Prijedor, Doboj and Trebinje. 383 political subjects are taking part in the elections – 84 parties, 59 coalitions, 224 independent candidates and 16 lists of independent candidates. The voters will be able to vote for a total of 30,351 candidates. 3,144,296 citizens are eligible to vote. Even though these are local elections, the EU and Bosnia-Herzegovina have assessed that they are very significant. Media are paying special attention to Srebrenica where the citizens will choose between two mayoral candidates – Bosniak Camil Durakovic and Serb Vesna Kovacevic. Tanjug
