SKOPJE The Macedonian government of conservative Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski survived a no-confidence vote on Friday. The largest opposition party, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia led by former President Branko Crvenkovski, launched the initiative for the no-confidence vote. The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia accused Gruevski of stoking tensions with the ethnic Albanian minority.

Gruevski’s main coalition partner is the ethnic Albanian Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), led by former leader of so-called People's Liberation Army (ONA), Ali Ahmeti. ONA members fought against the Macedonian police in 2001.
