Mafia has no influence on the Montenegrin judiciary, claims Montenegro’s Finance Minister Dusko Markovic. “Mafia has no influence on the Montenegrin judiciary because it would be disastrous for the state and this is why we in the government have launched a series of policies that should result in an efficient and responsible judiciary,” he told MPs. “Mafia does not control Montenegrin justice system” He admitted that the country had problems with organized crime but added that it had achieved good results in combat against it. Movement for Changes (PZP) MP Koca Pavlovic asked the minister “whether verdicts of the Appellate Court in the cases of Vjekoslav Lambulic and Mehmed Bela Djokovic indicate that the judges were corrupted by the mafia”. “When you sentence someone to three years in prison for smuggling three kilograms of cocaine, there is a reasonable doubt that the judge is corrupt. There is no combat against organized crime when the corruption has made holes in the judiciary like Swiss cheese,” he stressed.
