Chairman of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic said Bosnia should become an EU member country in eight to ten years. According to this politician, the prediction represents "a realistic time-frame". Presidency chair: Bosnia to join EU in 8 to 10 years "It is realistic if we act responsibly, if we do not keep making delays of several years which have put us last in the regional race of countries aspiring to join the EU," Izetbegovic told the Bosnia edition of the Croatian daily Vecernji List. Talking about the upcoming NATO Summit in Chicago, he stressed a referendum on Bosnia's accession to the western military alliance can only be organized at the state level. Izetbegovic also noted that the time of the Ottoman Empire "is long past" and "modern Turkey's engagement in Bosnia is "for now well-meaning and produces good results".
