Social Democratic Party and Croatia's new PM Zoran Milanovic said on Friday Croatia would conduct a friendly and open policy toward countries in the region. He pointed out that the policy would be "guided by Croatia's interest." "Without the region, the Croatian economy does not stand a chance and would be much worse off," he said and stressed the importance of a close market. Milanovic said that the new government had had meetings with national minority MPs and had listened to their legitimate interests. "One part of this is in our program, and one part we will prove through our daily work," he said and reminded the work of the previous government was marked by "close cooperation with national minorities" which took steps to lead Croatia in the right direction. "We are counting on national minority representatives as full partners who will take on even more responsibility, which means they will not be only representatives of minorities but also Croatian politicians," he said, reminding that not all in the Kukuriku coalition were Croats but all of them were Croatian citizens.
