The trial of former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was postponed on Friday due to his poor health. The trial for war profiteering was supposed to begin at 9:30 CET on Friday. Sanader came to the courtroom wearing a track suit and he was using a crutch, new outlet Index.hr has reported. The judge therefore asked for court expert’s opinion whether the former prime minister was fit to stand trial. The expert said he believed Sanader was not fit to attend today’s hearing due to his health issues and the fact that the trial was very stressful for him. The judge adjourned the hearing and said that the next one would be scheduled for November 3 or 4 since the defendant’s test results should be done by then. Sanader is charged with war profiteering in case of taking kickbacks in the amount of HRK 3.61mn (EUR 483,000) in a loan arrangement between Croatia and the Austrian Hypo bank in 1994 and 1995.
