Greek customs officers go on strike again

The Macedonian Ministry of Interior says that three border crossings with Greece will be closed again as of today, due to a strike by Greek customs officers.

The Macedonian Ministry of Interior says that three border crossings with Greece will be closed again as of today, due to a strike by Greek customs officers. The strike will last until October 21, and passenger and freight traffic will be blocked during the period. The strike should have lasted until October 24, but early Friday night an Athens court declared their strike illegal and warned anyone insisting on continuing the strike to be fined with a EUR 1,000 penalty. During the strike, all border crossings towards non-EU countries will be closed, and those who travel to Greece through Macedonia can travel across Bulgaria, Greek border authorities released in a statement. This is the fourth strike of Greek customs officers in a month. The Macedonian authorities calculated that the border was closed for 90 days in 2011, which caused EUR 15 million worth of damage.
