Hundreds of Roma (Gypsies) from a village in Hungary have been evacuated out of fear of conflicts with an extreme right-wing organization. The far-right group, calling itself Vedero, has set up a camp near their homes. Hungary: Hundreds of Roma evacuated Janos Farkas, who chairs the local Roma council in Gyongyospata, said the Roma were afraid there would be confrontation with the vigilante group. Farkas said that "people in camouflage uniforms have been patrolling the village for several weeks", and that it "has been practically a battlefield". This resulted in the evacuation of 277 women and children, who were taken by buses to a secret location - a move necessary to protect them. "We are afraid and we have reason to be," said Farkas was quoted as saying. At least 10 police vans could be seen entering the village after the buses had gone, said reports.
