Parliamentary approval of Hungary’s new constitution has angered opposition Socialists and even the country’s far right party, euronews reports. The ruling Fidesz party which swept to power with a two thirds majority in 2010, claims the move will complete a democratization process started in 1989 when Hungary’s communist regime collapsed. Hungary’s Socialists angry over new constitution But critics say the document is conservative, entrenches governmental power and limits civil liberties. Hungary’s Socialists and green, liberal LMP boycotted the vote and held their own meeting in a nearby cinema. Former Socialist prime minister, Ferenc Gyurcsany is one of many concerned over specifics such as lifetime prison sentences without parole for murder and limits on the powers of the constitutional court.
