Gjorgje Ivanov has been sworn in as Macedonia’s new president in Skopje today, calling for good neighborly relations and further EU integration. In his inaugural address, he said that Macedonian would continue its integration path by implementing responsible foreign and domestic policy, as the “Euro-Atlantic alliance is not just declarative.” New Macedonian president sworn in The ceremony was attended by the presidents of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania—Boris Tadic, Filip Vujanovic, Stipe Mesic and Bamir Topi. I will do all I can for relations between the two countries to develop in the spirit of good neighborliness and mutual trust,” Ivanov underlined. He added that Macedonia and Greece shared the same “European values and the same European dream, and see the Balkans as a center of European culture.” “Foreign policies will be built on the values and ideals of Macedonian citizens, and those are good neighborly policies and Macedonia’s contribution to stability and prosperity in the region,” said Ivanov, the country’s fourth president since it gained independence from Yugoslavia 18 years ago. He added that he would not neglect obstacles such as the global economic crisis and the unresolved dispute with Greece regarding Macedonia’s name. Ivanov said that he would be a president for all the citizens, and that he would work with the institutions, the business community and academia. He also thanked his predecessors Kiri Gligorov, the late Boris Trajkovski and Branko Crvenkovski for their efforts in leading the country.
