Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic will meet opposition leaders to try and resolve the crisis stemming from Podgorica’s recognition of Kosovo independence. According to the president’s cabinet, Vujanovic will meet with opposition leaders today at 11:00 CET. Montenegrin president to meet with opposition Officials from the Serbian List, the Movement for Change, the Socialist National Party, the National Party and the Democratic Serb Party have requested to meet with Vujanovic. In a letter to the president, opposition officials state that the meeting must be scheduled immediately “because of the very complex political situation that Montenegro currently finds itself in.” Opposition leaders say that the government’s decisions to “recognize the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence was made against the will of the Montenegrin people.” The opposition is calling for the government to rescind the decision to recognize Kosovo or to call a referendum regarding the question or schedule early parliamentary elections. Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said in parliament earlier that the decision to recognize Kosovo would not be overturned. Officials from the Serbian List, the Movement for Change, the Socialist National Party, the National Party and the Democratic Serb Party have requested to meet with Vujanović.

In a letter to the president, opposition officials state that the meeting must be scheduled immediately “because of the very complex political situation that Montenegro currently finds itself in.”
