An EP rapporteur says he “noticed an attempt on the part of Serbian President Boris Tadic to pressure Montenegro into not recognizing Kosovo”. European Parliament (EU) official monitoring Serbia Jelko Kacin met with Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister Gordana Djurovic in Brussels on Thursday. “Serbia is pressuring Montenegro” The Slovenian official told his interlocutor that the very fact that Montenegro’s not in the news much, especially in a negative context, should be seen as a significant contribution to the rising pro-European mood in the region. Kacin also said that the EU regard Montenegro as “the hope in the Western Balkans”. "I have followed with interest media reports about the recent meeting between Serbian and Montenegrin presidents, Tadic and Vujanovic, and I’ve noticed Tadic’s attempt to pressure Montenegro into not recognizing Kosovo,” he told Djurovic, adding that he was interested to learn whether Montenegro intends to recognize Kosovo, and start accepting Kosovo’s passports. Djurovic told Kacin that Montenegro’s parliament will discuss the possibility of recognition of Kosovo on October 3, adding that it came as a result of a positive initiative of the government in Podgorica, which will then base its official position on this debate. Apart from that, Kacin was interested in investment opportunities in Montenegro. One of his remarks was that it is “regrettable” that Montenegro’s coastline is becoming more urban.
