The U.S. ambassador to Podgorica says there are “huge differences” between Kosovo and of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. “My country and many member states of the EU said a long time ago that Kosovo is a sui generis and that it does not represent a precedent for other separatist movements around the world for many reasons,” the Roderick Moore said. "Kosovo, S. Ossetia hugely different" He repeated that there is "a huge difference" between the situation that led to Kosovo’s proclamation of independence and the Russian invasion of Georgia, "which led to the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia", Voice of America reported. “Russia is, so far, the only country in the world to recognize the two republics, while several dozen countries have recognized Kosovo, among them the vast majority of EU member states and several neighboring countries,” Moore was quoted as saying. He added that the process which led to Kosovo independence was "based on international law, including the UN Security Council Resolution 1244", which that is not the case with the Russia recognition of the seceded Georgian republics. Moore said that in the Georgian case, the UN Security Council, which Russia is a member of, adopted a resolution reaffirming the territorial integrity of Georgia "just four months before the Russian invasion".
