At a two-day informal meeting beginning in Slovenia today, South-East European defense ministers will discuss further regional cooperation. The meeting in Podcetrtk, the first of its kind, will be hosted by Slovenian Defense Minister Karel Erjavec. Regional defense ministers meet in Slovenia State Secretary at the Defense Ministry Dusan Spasojevic will head the Serbian delegation, while representatives from Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina will also be in attendance. Kosovo representatives have not been invited to the meeting because Kosovo is not a member of this initiative. This informal meeting of ministers will also be attended by senior representatives from Italy, Hungary, the EU and NATO, and they will discuss current forms of cooperation and other possibilities for collaboration in the area of defense in the region, as well as practical forms of regional partnership. The meeting will feature an exchange of current information and opinions on defense and security sector reform in South-East Europe. One of the topics of discussion will be South-East European states’ progress in Euro-Atlantic integration into structures such as EU and NATO. Prior to this conference, a clearing-house initiative for South-East Europe (SEEC) started on Wednesday in Brdo Pri Kranju, ending today. Along with U.S. command for Europe, that informal initiative is permanently chaired by Slovenia, and the initiative includes Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia, as well as other countries and international organizations that have special interests in cooperation in the region.

Regional defense ministers meet in Slovenia

State Secretary at the Defense Ministry Dušan Spasojević will head the Serbian delegation, while representatives from Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina will also be in attendance.

Kosovo representatives have not been invited to the meeting because Kosovo is not a member of this initiative.
