The kingpin of an influential European drug and crime ring, Turkish national Abdurahim Erciyes, has been arrested in Bucharest. In so doing, police thwarted the delivery of a 460 kg consignment of pure heroin to the Dutch market. Turkish drug baron arrested in Romania The suspect, currently residing in Romania, is accused of running the illegal trade of 460 kilos of pure heroin with a street value of EUR 11.5mn from Turkey to the Netherlands. The heroin was seized on the basis of information obtained by Romanian police and prosecutors following Erciyes’ arrest late last week. "In early June we found out that Erciyes was planning a big delivery, whose final destination was Holland. We told our Dutch and the German colleagues after the ‘delivery’ crossed Romanian territory,” an unnamed police officer said. A lorry carrying 460 kilos of the finest heroin, with a purity level of “as high as 85 percent” was stopped in Tilburg, a town in southern Holland, last Friday. Rompres news agency stated that two dealers had been arrested in Holland where Erciyes himself is due to be extradited.
