NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer says that Macedonia can join the Alliance by July 9 if it settles its differences with Greece. Greece vetoed Skopje’s accession to NATO at the Alliance’s last summit owing to the continuing wrangle over Macedonia’s name. NATO: Macedonia can join by July 9

At a session of NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, Skopje media report that Scheffer said that he expected Macedonia, together with Albania and Croatia, to sign a protocol on Alliance membership.

The NATO chief added that talks with Albania and Croatia were “going well.”
