Montenegrin war veterans wants Croatia to investigate war crimes committed against Montenegrin soldiers at Lora prison. Wednesday's demand by the Montenegrin Association of War Veterans came after Croatian prosecutors opened an investigation into war crimes committed by Montenegrins in the town of Morinj. Montenegro war veterans urge probe The probe, being conducted by a Montenegrin court on behalf of the Croatian authorities, has begun hearing the accounts of six former reserve soldiers from the Yugoslav National Army, JNA, who are accused of attacks on the civilian population of Morinj between 1992 and 1993. A total of 18 people are suspected of war crimes in the area, including 10 from Montenegro. But Montenegro war veterans accuse Croatia of covering up war crimes committed by its own citizens against Montenegrins, particularly in Croatia's Lora Prison, where captured JNA soldiers were detained during the war. "A whole year has passed since we submitted details of suffering by Montenegrin reservists held at Lora to the prosecutor,” the Association said in a press release. “We requested, according to the Croatia-Montenegro agreement on pursuing war criminals, the prosecution to act in the frame of its competence," the statement reads. War veterans have urged Croatia's State Prosecutor to inform the Association and families of dead reservists of what progress Montenegrin and Croatian authorities have made in the case. They also appealed to the Montenegrin public service, RTCG, to pay more attention to probing crimes committed by Croats during the 1990s Balkan Wars. Lora Prison was operational between January 1992 and August 1997, and most of the captured Serbian and Montenegrin JNA troops, were detained and interrogated here. Fourteen members from the JNA's Niksic and Savnik corps were tortured and killed in Lora, and their remains found twelve years later.
