Croatian PM Ivo Sanader has criticized Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel for comparing Croatia to Serbia. Sanader said that the Rupel’s statements had been made in haste, as he recently said that Croatia and Serbia should be treated equally in their talks with the EU, according to Slovenian media. Sanader blasts Rupel's Serbia-Croatia comparison He added that the Slovene foreign minister’s statement spoke more of the minister himself, who should be more restrained, and should not compare two countries. “As a minister of a state that is about to assume the EU presidency, he ought to use vocabulary used by myself and Prime Minister Janez Jansa,” said Sanader, adding that all ministers should conduct themselves according to European standards. The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has already responded to Rupel’s comments, calling them unfounded and inaccurate, stressing that the statements had surprised them, particularly given that they had been made by a high representative of a nation shortly due to take over the EU presidency.
