Croat newspaper editor in trouble with Hague

Investigators from the Hague Tribunal’s Zagreb office have spoken with the editor of daily Slobodna Dalmacija. They spoke to Mladen Plese about certain matters linked to the publication of supplements to an indictment carrying the Top Secret stamp. Croat newspaper editor in trouble with Hague After the meeting with the investigators, Plese did not wish to divulge any details of their conversation, and merely said that he had answered all questions relating to the matter in hand. The Hague Tribunal has accused Plese, together with former Editor-in-Chief of Croatian Television Vladimir Roncevic who will also be questioned today, of publishing the supplements of the indictments against Croat generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac, in spite of the documents' top secret status. In May of this year, HTV was the first to publish the names of the seven former and current top military and political officials, who in the supplement are accused of jointly taking part in crimes against civilians during the Oluja (Storm) operation in 1995. The Split daily first published the contents of the top secret supplement, although it did not give the names of the officials involved. The Hague removed the Top Secret stamp from the documents in question a few days after publication.
