Two officers were injured, while three others reported they were assaulted. The protest dispersed in the evening hours, while police was out in force, especially in those neighborhoods that are homes to ethnic Albanians and their businesses. On Tuesday, Macedonian Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska told reporters that the investigation to date had shown that the killings were "organized", while the victims were selected randomly. "The investigation is moving in a good direction, a smaller portion of the data has already been processed, while full processing will take several days, so we can come out with more concrete information," she said, according to an RFE report. Jankulovska added that it appeared that the killers were "professionals", and said this was deduced from the fact that "most of the shots they fired hit the victims". Late on Monday, media reports suggested that there was a surviving witness to the lakeside murders that took place last Thursday, on the eve of Orthodox Easter holidays, just north of Skopje. The victims were four young men, aged 18 to 20, at the lake in the Smiljkovci village fishing when they were shot and killed, along with a 45-year old local man who is believed to have been the witness of the murders. But Vecernje Novosti writes that the killers "overlooked" the presence of another witness, who is now believed to be providing investigators with valuable assistance. According to the article, the killers most likely escaped the scene and fled to Kosovo. On Monday, the authorities in Skopje said they had made progress in the investigation, but had not determined the identity of the perpetrators.
