The trial was previously scheduled for June 9 but the hearing was postponed due to metropolitan’s absence. The misdemeanor charges were filed after it had been assessed that his address to believers and public in general regarding a church at Mt. Rumija and Montenegrin language represented hate speech. “He who tears down that temple, may God judge him and his offspring,” Amfilohije said on Christmas in Podgorica, as a response to the threats that the small tin church at Mt. Rumija may be torn down. When it was announced that he could face charges, the metropolitan said that nobody could expect him to give his blessings to demolition of the church. “What do they expect from the metropolitan of Montenegro and the littoral, to bless demolition of a church, especially the renovated one at Mt. Rumija in which a centuries-long codex of St. John Vladimir’s cross-bearing has been built in,” he pointed out at the time. Metropolitan Amfilohije (FoNet, file)
