Outgoing Croat President Stjepan Mesic repeated that he would use the country's military to intervene in neighboring Bosnia. He was quoted as saying that he would "cut off the corridor connecting the Republic of Srpska (Serb entity in Bosnia) if it were to try and secede from Bosnia-Herzegovina." Mesic again talks military intervention The corridor he has repeatedly referred to is the one near the town of Brcko, in northern Bosnia and along the border with Croatia, which connects the western and eastern parts of RS. The post-Dayton Bosnia-Herzegovina is made of the Serb republic and the Muslim-Croat federation. Now Mesic rejected accusations that he was acting as a warmonger, stating that the "real warmongers are those that are urging RS Prime Minister Milorad Dodik to call a referendum". Mesic also admitted at the start of the war in Croatia, he called for "preventive forces to come to Croatia in order to scare the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) away from attacking Croatia, which the UN rejected," but said that he would again ask the same, this time in relation to Bosnia. “We know who decides on whether this will be done by NATO, the Bosnia-Herzegovina military or the Croatian military,” Mesic said, adding that he would "cut off the corridor" and that the Dayton Agreement was a guarantee for the unity of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Mesic went on to say that he is being attacked by “Chetnikoids and Ustashoids” because he "stands in the way of their plan for taking their part of Bosnia". “And then Prime Minister Dodik arrives, who says that he will implement a referendum in RS and annex RS to Serbia. Of course, he will not annex it to Finland. Dodik was supported in this by the Ustashoids who have their own plans,” Mesic said, in apparent reference to Croat Ustashas, and their supporters. He said that Bosnia-Herzegovina "must survive", and that Serbian President Boris Tadic "should urge the people of Bosnia-Herzegovina that it is their country and that Sarajevo is their capital city, where they should create their policy". Mesic's initial statement that he would use Croatia's military to attack RS were described in Zagreb as having been made during an informal meeting with journalists, but they found their way to a UN Security Council session, when Tadic criticized this approach. The outgoing president said that Croatia was able to open itself towards Europe and the world and sustain normal relations in the international scene, adding that “today relations between Croatia and its neighbors have normalized”. The reasons why relations with neighbors have improved, according to him, are that they have “collectives have freed themselves of guilt for war crimes, and that the individuals were found guilty”. Mesic is due to officially step down as president next week, when Ivo Josipovic will be inaugurated as Croatia's new president.
