18 years since fall of Vukovar
18 November 2009 | 13:51 | Source: B92
BELGRADE -- Today marks 18 years since the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) units entered the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar.

The fall of the town ended three months of fighting in the area.

Between 3,000 and 5,000 people died in the 86 days of conflict, most of them believed to have been civilians.

Some 200 wounded persons from the Vukovar hospital were killed and buried at the Ovčara farm in November 1991.

Former Vukovar Mayor Slavko Dokmanović, and former JNA officers Mile Mrkšić and Veselin Šljivančanin have been found guilty of war crimes by the Hague Tribunal.

Former political official Goran Hadžić is still at large.
