Skopje: Name negotiations continue
17 November 2009 | 13:22 | Source: Beta
SKOPJE -- Macedonia's top officials have decided that the country should stay actively involved in the negotiations about its name.

The talks meant to bring closer the positions of Skopje and Athens on this issue are being conducted under the UN patronage.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshovski stated after a meeting late last night with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and President Gjorgje Ivanov, that Greece was sticking to an earlier deal, and “was not impeding Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.”

“The Republic of Macedonia will remain actively involved in the dialogue led under the patronage of the UN,” said the foreign minister.

Macedonian negotiator in the name dispute Zoran Yolevski is currently in Skopje in order to inform the government about the last meeting with UN mediator Matthew Nimetz.

The meeting did not produce any concrete solution.

Greek representatives said that the country’s name should be Republic of North Macedonia or Republic of New Macedonia, and that it should be used in internationally and internally, and in the communication with 127 countries that recognized Macedonia under its constitutional name.
