Macedonian police arrest serial killer
10 November 2009 | 09:55 | Source: B92
SKOPJE -- Police in Macedonia have announced that they have a suspected serial killer in custody.

The suspect, who has been identified as Viktor Karamarkov, is believed to have killed four elderly women from March until October this year.

The victims all lived alone and were killed with an axe. The suspect robbed his victims and used the money to finance his drug abuse.

After committing a murder, he would "go to church to light a candle", reports from Skopje said.

Police are basing their case on traces of his clothing, lie detector results and several composites of the murderer, put together from testimonies from some 200 eyewitnesses.

Police decided to place the suspect on a 24-hour suicide watch due to his "serious (metal) instability".
