Inzko: Situation in Bosnia "serious"
6 November 2009 | 12:43 | Source: Beta
SARAJEVO -- Political situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina is difficult with a tendency to deteriorate said International High Representative Valentine Inzko.

After his meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Inzko noted that "there are no signs of improvement".

The two met in Sarajevo to discuss the political situation in Bosnia and the upcoming meeting of the Peace Implementation Council Managing board (PIC).

Inzko stated that Bosnia-Herzegovina had to "get back on the right track" and added that it was necessary to insure that the country becomes stable and sustainable, "on the road to EU integration".

“The tasks that need to be taken care of immediately are providing of complete and efficient implementation of Dayton peace accord, providing of the state functionality and monitoring the transition of Office of the High representative (OHR) to the Office of EU Special representative (EUSR) through accomplishing five goals and meeting two conditions defined by the PIC,” he said.

Inzko also said that the office he currently heads, OHR, would most likely not be transformed this year, but that such possibility would be realistic next year.

Lavrov repeated once again that Russia was in favor of successful transition of OHR to EUSR, "so the political leaders in Bosnia-Herzegovina could take over complete responsibility for their future". He also said that his country would support any agreement reached by the three constituent peoples in Bosnia.
