Protests in Tuzla over Jurišić verdict

Several thousand people are protesting today against Monday’s <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/crimes-article.php?yyyy=2009&mm=09&dd=28&nav_id=62008" class="text-link" target= "_blank">verdict given in Belgrade to Ilija Jurišić</a>, reports say.

Several thousand people are protesting today against Monday’s verdict given in Belgrade to Ilija Jurisic, reports say. Jurisic, a former high ranking Bosnian police official, was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in jail in a war crimes case known as the Tuzla Column. Protests in Tuzla over Jurisic verdict In May 1992, a convoy of withdrawing Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) troops was ambushed and attacked in Tuzla. At least 51 soldiers were murdered and as many wounded. Today, protesters in this eastern Bosnian town said that they want to let the government in Belgrade know that the verdict represents “a political game with the aim of making crimes seem relative”. More protests have been announced in Tuzla, with the main one set to take place at the location of the massacre, in Tuzla’s Brcanska Malta neighborhood.
