Impasse in Macedonia name negotiations

UN envoy Matthew Nimetz said on Wednesday that there is still no agreement between Athens and Skopje in the Macedonian name dispute. Nimetz made the comments after meeting with Greek negotiator Adamantios Vassilikis, and appraised that the talks had hit an impasse, Macedonia's Makfax news agency quoted Greek media reports. Impasse in Macedonia name negotiations The Greek side told the envoy that they were not satisfied with the ideas he put forward, that were taken to both countries. Macedonian negotiator Zoran Jolevski suggested that the proposed name " Republic of North Macedonia" be used only in bilateral communication. But Athens insists that this name should be used worldwide for the country it now refers to as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Macedonia's constitutional name, the Republic of Macedonia, has been recognized by 125 states. However, the name dispute has blocked the country's NATO and EU membership plans.
