Ante Gotovina was hiding with one of the most important mafia clans near Naples in southern Italy, author and screenplay writer Maurizio Braucci claims. "I am not well acquainted with the situation in Croatia, but I have dealt extensively with the relations between the mafias in the whole of the Balkans, and I know that there is a connection between the Croatian mafia, the Naples Camorra, and the Calabrian Ndrangheta, which is the largest in Europe, if not the world," he told Zagreb daily Vecernji List. Gotovina is a former Croatian army general currently undergoing trial at the Hague Tribunal for war crimes committed against Croatia's Serbs. Before he was arrested, Gotovina spent some time hiding from the authorities. Braucci was in Zagreb promoting Matteo Garrone's award-winning film about the Camorra, "Gomorrah". Braucci is one of the five writers on the movie, which include author Roberto Saviano, whose book serves as the script's basis. Saviano has spent time since the book was published under constant police protection due to death threats that he receives.
